flower girl montage

Well friends, it's almost September and we have once again neglected our blog! We definitely have some catching up to do and we will gradually do so. We've enjoyed all that these summer months have brought - a lot of weddings, travels, time with friends and family, and of course much sunshine! It's been great but I must say I am looking forward to the natural transition and structure that September tends to brings.

My half-sister, Catie, got married a few weeks ago in Spokane. It was a lovely celebration and she was a beautiful bride!

Our niece stole the show as one of her flower girls. Tessa quickly became best friends with her fellow flower girl, Sophie.

Chris missed the wedding due to once in a lifetime opportunity (that I'll let him share about) so I did my best to capture some of the finer moments. Here is a video that Chris then put together. Make sure your volume is up...

Reading the Sunday paper

Our niece, Tessa, decided that she wanted to read the paper like her Uncle Chris. She really enjoyed the comics! Who knew that a 21-month old would be so much fun! We love spending time with Tessa!

Viva Los Cabos

Even though we do nothing but travel it often seems, we decided to take a true vacation and relax on the beaches of Cabo. We do like Seattle, I promise, but looking at our summer schedule which is full of weddings, family gatherings, etc., it was either take a vacation now or wait until November. We opted for now and made our plans only two weeks before leaving for Cabo. We were especially excited to be in the sun (although we later learned Seattle had some record setting days hitting 90 - go figure!) Our travel in general has paid off - we had enough points and miles to fly us there and stay at the Hilton for free. We even got upgraded to a suite with a massive balcony that had a couch, lounge chairs an umbrella...and an incredible view.

We spent seven days and six nights in Cabo and only set our alarms once. It was so great to not have a real agenda or many decisions to make. Well I guess we had to choose where to eat, what side of the pool to lay-out on, and most importantly what kind of Tequila to drink. Our friends from Seattle, Aven and Adrienne were spending a long weekend in Cabo so we caught up with them over dinner. Something we had failed to do in Seattle. Cabo was really slow due to the economy and swine flu scare which made it extra nice for us. We practically had the pool to ourselves most days and did not have to deal with many tourists. We even crashed a few other hotel pools and they were also not very busy.

Some highlights include:

· Taking a glass bottom boat over to romance beach. The tide was high and the waves were crashing. I unfortunately had to read a magazine during our time on the beach which was interesting. No pictures of that!

· Playing tennis with a tennis pro, he helped improve my game

· Going to McDonalds, WalMart, and Starbucks. Hey, at least we didn’t go to Applebees which they also have!

· Going to a really nice restaurant and not having enough cash to pay both the bill and tip. They only took American Express but fortunately an ATM was not too far away. Slightly embarrassing.

· Finding the restaurant that Cassie remembered from years ago. We spent an hour in the car looking for it with Aven and Adrienne. Finally we found it days later. It changed names and the restaurant across the street took its old name, naturally.

All and in all, we were very impressed with Cabo. I wish our service industry would take some notes- everyone was overly friendly and accomodating. Some times it was a little too much -like when the pool boys would not let us lounge our own chair back. It was rough. We were grateful for a truly relaxing vacay and hope to go back again some day!

We made it home after 2 days of travel last night. Are exhausted mentally and physically but doing well. We'll be adding new posts in the near future to highlight more of our trip. For now, I thought I'd add a few pics from the past 2 blog entries.

Getting to meet our sponsored child

Cassie and I had the privilege to meet our sponsored child Charles. He was a little shy at first but opened up after we gave him a soccer ball. Both Charles's parents are no longer living and his grandmother told us that we are now his mother and father. That just left chills down my spine; that there could be so many children who are orphaned every year. It was really a special day to meet Charles and we will always remember this day!
